Nathan E. Wheeler - was born in La Jolla CA
in 1979. At age 5 he knew exactly what he wanted to do with
his life; to become a filmmaker & actor. Over the course of
his life he has been mentored privately by professors from
University of San Diego, University of California-San Diego,
San Francisco State University, directors of the San Diego
Old Globe Theater, directors of the La Jolla Playhouse, The
International Shakespeare Competition committee, directors
of the San Diego & San Francisco Shakespeare in the Park
Festival(s), and Dr. A.M. Charlens of the Royal Academy in
London.
As a young man he appeared in TV shows such as 7th Heaven
and Felicity, but it was the combination of both his acting
and writing skills that caught the attention of a major
Hollywood producer. On March 2nd 1999 Nathan got the
phone call that brought him to Hollywood, he was asked to
write a movie that was based on his true life story. The script
was hailed to be “a master piece written by a 19 year old kid
from San Diego CA.” The hype grew quick and the phone
soon began to ring off the hook as some of Hollywood’s
most elite bit at the chance to attach themselves to the film.
With every position that was filled on the production team,
Nathan acquired another mentor that was sensitive to his
lack of experience but highly aware of the exceptional
potential that the film held. Such individuals were previous
Assistant Vice President of EMI Music Publishing, previous
Vice President of Aftermath Records, Vice President of Death
Row Records, and an Oscar Winning Cinematographer/DP
from the crew of the worlds most respected
director/producer. It was during this period of his life that
Nathan also had the remarkable pleasure of working with
Oscar Winning actor, Kevin Spacey. To everyone’s dismay,
the project never reached filming, as it was, the investor lost
a substantial amount of money in the bankruptcy of one of
Hollywood’s more reputable production companies, thus he
was unable to continue financing the film.
Although this did not stop Nathan from pressing on and
studying with his new team of elite mentors, it was however
the death of his second investor to cancer and the fact that 2
of his co-producers were trying to steal the script from him,
that caused Nathan to eventually bury the project.
Nathan resurfaced in 2006 by writing another film which he
produced, directed, edited and starred in, entitled, “In
Exchange”. The film was not released to the public; its sol
purpose was to demonstrate his talent to potential film
investors. Since it’s completion he has established a working
relationship with studio executives, Richard Skaggs (ALEC –
Life Time Achievement Award Winner) and Gino Grajeda,
board member of the Olympic Volley Ball committee & VP
Omstar Productions.
Nathan has always found himself teaching and sharing
whatever it is he has learned with others. The “pay it
forward” mentality has always been his motto. One of his
greatest passions is to teach and to inspire. In 2007 he
created the “Nathan E. Wheeler School for Film Acting”; a
school designed to teach students, what he calls “Oscar
Winning Family Secrets”. Secrets that reveal all the things an
actor needs to know in order to one day obtain the highest
accolade in the entertainment business, the “Oscar”. The
teachings go beyond the set, beyond character
development and into the personal life, politics and image of
the actor. Nathan started the school not because he wanted
to own an acting school, but rather out of necessity to train
actors for his own film projects. It was either hire award
winning actors for a very high price and climb back into the
drama of big budget film production, or train other actors to
become Hollywood’s future elite and there by obtain
astonishing talent at a fraction of the cost. “A formula by
which everyone can win,” Nathan says.
The “N.E.W. School for Film Acting” has recently finished the
film “Last Laugh” written by one of its students, Mike Leb.
The film is a dark comedy about a comedian who gets
heckled one too many times and is pushed down a path of
sweet revenge… giving him the last laugh.
Currently Nathan & the “N.E.W. School for Film Acting” are
revving up to start production another film entitled
“Common Cents”. A feel good film about what happens
when you take the smallest things in life and turn them into
objects of hope.
